NetMeeting Remote Desktop

If you want to dial in through in order to do training where
the remote location can take control of the cursor so that you can talk them
through a transaction, the following procedure must be followed. There are two
procedures. One is for the remote location and one is
for the home office. Since this is done over DSL, cable
modem, or other high speed connection, it will be faster then PC Anywhere.
Remote Location
NetMeeting Procedures
- Double click on the NetMeeting icon to open that program.
Once you have done this, the home office will then call in to the remote
location. You should see a window like the one shown below:

- Then a message will come up on your screen asking you to
accept an incoming call from the person dialing in, as shown below. Left click
once on the "Accept" button. Now, both parties’ names will appear in the white
name block.

- Left click once on the Share program icon (hand holding
paper) as seen on the next page.

- When the Share program opens up, left click on the Desktop
icon to highlight it. Then left click once on the Share button.

- Then left click once on the Allow Control button in the lower Control
section.
- Left click once on "Close" to close the Share program window.
- When the remote user desires control of the desktop, they should
double-click the desktop. This will result in the "Request Control" window
appearing on the remote user screen, shown on the next page:

- When this message appears requesting control of your
desktop, it will say, for example: "David Martin would like to take control of
your shared desktop." Left click once on "Accept". Once you have done this,
the cursor will then be in control of the person connecting remotely.
- To take possession of the cursor back from the home office,
an individual at the remote location can double click the cursor on the
desktop. Now, the remote party controls the cursor.
- If the home office wants to take control back, they would
double click on the desktop and the message requesting control of the desktop
comes up again. The remote location party must again left click once on
"Accept" to give control back to the home office.
Home Office NetMeeting
Procedures
- Open NetMeeting by double-clicking on the NetMeeting icon
on the desktop, or by going to the Start Menu, Programs, Accessories,
Communications, then left click once on NetMeeting (location here may vary
depending on how the program was installed).
- Type the IP address of the computer you wish to access
remotely in the box just above the Windows NetMeeting logo, as seen below:

- You can also access the IP address by clicking on the
drop-down menu and selecting the one you desire, assuming that IP address has
been saved in this field previously, as shown below:

- If you do not know the IP address of the computer you wish
to access, have someone at that computer go to the Start Menu, click on "Run",
and type in the following:
winipcfg
Then hit "Enter" or left click once on "OK".
- This will bring up a window as shown below. Click on the
drop-down menu to access the modem or Ethernet Adapter.

- You will then have the IP address you desire, displayed as follows:
- In this case, the IP address you would need to key in is
10.10.1.104. Click on "OK" to close the above window. The correct IP address
can now be given to the Home Office in order to place the call.
- Left click once on the telephone icon to connect to the
remote computer (when you mouse-over the icon, "Place Call" will be
displayed).
- You will then see the following window appear. The remote
party must accept the call in order for you to gain access to their computer.
When the desktop of the remote computer appears, and the remote user has
allowed you to access it, you can double-click on their desktop to request
control. A request as shown below will appear, and the remote user must click
"Accept" in order for you to gain access.
- If the remote user does not respond within a specified
period of time, the following window will appear and the request must be sent
again.

- Once you have been given control, you can use the computer
just as if you were sitting in front of it. The remote user is in charge and
can take control back whenever they desire by double clicking the desktop.
