Using DESEX

Orders can be placed and order status can be checked for DLA items using DESEX (DEfense Supply EXpert System).  This essentially allows you to use a touch-tone phone to send or receive information.  It tends to be a bit slower than ordering or checking status using warfighter.net or the DOD Emall, but if these sites are down, it can be a good alternative.

DESEX Phone Numbers

You can obtain the phone number you need to call by going to the following web address:

https://www.desex.com/phone/

You will be able to find the number for the specific source of supply (S9T, S9G, etc.) on this page, as shown below:

DESEX Alpha/Numeric Characters

You will be able to locate the alpha/numeric codes to use to obtain order status or place an order at the following address:

https://www.desex.com/help/dtmf.html#alpha

You will see several tables that will assist you as seen below:

Basic instructions for using the system are shown below.  Simply follow the requests you hear and you will be able to place orders or receive order status.

Hints For Using DESEX

bullet

You may start entering data before a prompt is finished (or even before a prompt starts). When you press a key, the voice usually stops; if it does not, DESEX is giving you important information or indication an entry error. Under such conditions, do not press any key and listen to the message.

bullet

Before you call DESEX, sort your documents in DODAAC order. After the first Transaction, DESEX will ask if you wish to use the previous DODAAC. Thus, you need to enter a DODAAC only once (no matter how many documents there are).

bullet

If you forget the field value you just entered, press *** which causes an error message. You can now start the field entry over again.

bullet

If you make an error while entering a new Requisition, you may choose to complete the Transaction. DESEX will give you a chance to correct any or all fields before submitting the Requisition for processing.

bullet

You can erase all entries in the present Transaction and start over by pressing CANCEL (* * 2). DESEX will place you back at the start of the Main (Opening) Menu.

bullet

If you request a Stock Availability Check before entering a new Requisition, DESEX has the capability to automatically fill in the stock number and unit of issue for the new Requisition if the new Requisition is for the same stock number.

bullet

If you are in the middle of a Transaction, and you don't know what to do next, press HELP (* * 4). When you EXIT (* * 9) the HELP facility, DESEX places you back to the exact point in the Transaction from which you asked for HELP.

bullet

When entering a quantity, you must either enter all 5 digits (example: 0 0 0 1 5) OR enter only the digits and press # (example: 1 5 #).

Additional information may be found on the DESEX website.
