RLCB - Statement of Philosophy of Service

RLCB’s services are open to anyone who is visually impaired without regard to age, race, creed, disability or ability to pay.

Basic to the philosophy of RLCB is the concept that each person who has a visual impairment must be seen as an individual who may potentially be served by this agency.  For each prospective consumer, services may vary depending on individual needs, ability, and acceptance.  Each program is planned individually.

It is the prime purpose of RLCB to provide sound, responsive programs by which blind and visually impaired persons served by the agency may develop their full potential.  As a specialized agency, our goal is to meet the particular needs of blind and visually impaired individuals, either directly or through other resources.  Services that are not unique to the specialized agency for the blind and visually impaired should come from the general community human service agencies and educational programs.  The agency interprets and helps consumers to utilize these resources.

RLCB believes in prevention of blindness programs and supports and sponsors programs that aid in the prevention of blindness.

As a specialized, voluntary agency, RLCB will be responsive to the changing roles and services assumed by the voluntary and public sector.
